Apprenticeships are available across a wide range of job categories that can help you build valuable skills and experience for a career in financial services. Relevant job categories include administration & business management, computing & IT, legal services, finance & accounting, marketing & advertising, customer services.
S5 or S6 studentsGet work experience while in school
Foundation apprenticeships (FA) are available in your 5th or 6th year at secondary school.
You can complete a foundation apprenticeship alongside other qualifications, like Highers and National 5s. By completing your foundation apprenticeship you achieve a qualification equivalent to a National 4, National 5 or Higher. Foundation apprenticeships offer an opportunity for unpaid work experience for a few hours every week.

16 or overWork and learn after leaving school
Modern apprenticeships (GA) are available to Scottish residents, aged 16 or over.
You have the opportunity to take on a paid role, gain work experience and work with a college or other learning provider to develop your skills further.
While there is no upper age limit for modern apprenticeships, the funding level that your employer gets will be lower if you’re over 25.

16 or overWork and study for a degree after leaving school
Graduate apprenticeships (GA) are available to Scottish residents, aged 16 or over.
You have the opportunity to take on a paid role, gain work experience and work with the university that your employer has partnered with to gain your qualification.
Both Modern and Graduate apprenticeships can help fund training for either existing or new employees.
Paid summer placement your penultimate year in university
Many employers in Scotland offer 8-10 week internships for the summer of your penultimate year in university.
You can apply for a fully paid role and gain real work experience, while also building your network and having the opportunity to continue to a graduate programme after completing your university degree.
Graduating from college or university
You can apply for a graduate programme if you have already graduated or you are graduating at the end of this academic year.
Graduate programmes last from 6 to 24 months, often involving rotations between teams and roles so that you can understand different parts of the business and develop a range of skills.
