Apprenticeships are available across a wide range of job categories that can help you build valuable skills and experience for a career in financial services. Relevant job categories include administration & business management, computing & IT, legal services, finance & accounting, marketing & advertising, customer services.

Employers offering apprenticeships in Scotland

Foundation apprenticeships

S5 or S6 students
Get work experience while in school

You can complete a foundation apprenticeship alongside other qualifications, like Highers and National 5s. By completing your foundation apprenticeship you achieve a qualification equivalent to a National 4, National 5 or Higher. Foundation apprenticeships offer an opportunity for unpaid work experience for a few hours every week.

  • Study and work for 1 to 2 years
  • Achieve a qualification equivalent to a National 4, National 5 or Higher
  • Spend part of the school week with a learning provider and a local employer
  • Gain work experience and develop skills on your chosen subject

Modern apprenticeships

16 or over
Work and learn after leaving school

You have the opportunity to take on a paid role, gain work experience and work with a college or other learning provider to develop your skills further.

  • Study and work for 1 to 4 years
  • Gain a qualification from a college or other training provider
  • Gain valuable work experience in a paid role

While there is no upper age limit for modern apprenticeships, the funding level that your employer gets will be lower if you’re over 25.

Graduate apprenticeships

16 or over
Work and study for a degree after leaving school

You have the opportunity to take on a paid role, gain work experience and work with the university that your employer has partnered with to gain your qualification.

  • Study and work for 2 to 5 years
  • Gain a university qualification
  • Gain valuable work experience in a paid role

Both Modern and Graduate apprenticeships can help fund training for either existing or new employees.
